If you call yourself a Red Hot Chili Peppers fan then you better know who Hillel Slovak is! He was the original guitarist for the band, a virtuoso, a prodigy, and without him the band wouldn't exist today. He went to junior high with Flea and Jack Irons and the three attended Fairfax High School where one day Flea met Anthony because Anthony thought Flea was bullying this kid but really it was Flea's buddy. Hillel introduced Flea to Rock music and he taught him how to play the bass. Eventually Anthony Kiedis, Hillel Slovak, Mike Balzary and Jack Irons formed a band, Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem, but later became known as the Red Hot Chili Peppers! Hillel Slovak passed away on June 27, 1988 of a herion overdose. His brother James Slovak put together crushgroove.com so future Chili Pepper fans to come don't forget their roots. Merchandise is limited so show your support for Hillel now! John Frusciante idolized Hillel Slovak and he was a devoted Chili Peppers fan from the age of 15. He was very familiar with all the guitar and bass parts for their early music. Frusciante was jamming with friend and Dead Kennedys drummer D.H. Peligro and D.H. invited Flea to jam and Flea and John clicked instantly. When Hillel died, Jack Irons left the band because it was all to hard to cope with. Flea proposed that Frusciante audition for the Red Hots and he was accepted. Soon after Chad Smith joined the band in 1988. The present day Peppers first album together was 1989's Mothers Milk:)
